SOUTH HAMILTON, MA - MAIN CAMPUS AND HEADQUARTERS; Residential Learning Model

The South Hamilton campus provides academically challenging training - training that links the positive contributions of classical theological education with the demands of contemporary ministry. Here the intentional development of a residential community of learning fosters an environment of depth in scholarly inquiry and of breadth in academic reflection. The campus is located on 118 acres of rolling hills and winding lanes in South Hamilton, MA, on Boston's historic North Shore. There are thirteen buildings, including a modern academic center, chapel, library, and apartment buildings as well as the original estate, carriage, and gate houses.

The M.Div , M.A's in Church History, Theology, Old and New Testament, Biblical Languages, Educational Ministries, Counseling, World Missions, and Religion, the Th.M. and the D.Min. degrees, as well as joint Th.D and Ph.D. degrees, are offered at South Hamilton. Because the seminary is a member of the Boston Theological Institute, a consortium of nine seminaries in the Boston area, Gordon-Conwell students have access to the library resources and unique edcuational opportunities in other institutions, including Harvard and Boston Universities.

BOSTON, MA CAMPUS: Center for Urban Ministerial Education

In keeping with the Seminary's heritage, purpose, objectives and concerns and in the spirit of the Gordon Divinity School and Conwell School of Theology merger of 1969, Gordon-Conwell seeks to serve the African-American, Hispanic, and other ethnic communities of Boston and surrounding cities. After many years of prayer, dialogue and consultation with pastors and church leaders of the urban community of Boston, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary's Center for Urban Ministerial Education (CUME) opened in September 1976. Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary has committed itself to a carefully planned program for pastors and church leaders. Courses in biblical studies, Christian theology and ministry are offered in both Spanish and English, and also French (for Haitian leadership), and Portuguese. The curriculum has been organized to provide the students with access, on the one hand, to the very best biblical, theological and ministerial training that the Seminary has to offer, and on the other hand, to courses and instructors that reflect a commitment to contextual urban theological education. The degree programs offered in Boston are Master of Arts in Youth Ministries, Master of Arts in Urban Ministry, Master of Divinity, and Doctor of Ministry.

CHARLOTTE, NC CAMPUS - Adult Education Model

The Charlotte campus brings the Church together with the Seminary as partners in the educational process, providing pastoral and leadership training in a parish context. Here, clergy and lay education for the contemporary Church are infused with a biblically rich program for ministry. The specific vision for the Charlotte branch campus is driven by three convictions:

  1. The campus is to have a strong thrust toward the theological engagement of modern culture in its North American setting. There is to be a concern to raise biblically, theologically and practically the manner in which the gospel relates to the culture - both how the gospel is influenced by the modern world and how it ought to influence the modern world.
  2. The campus embraces fully the partnerships in ministry which helped launch it. This entails a concerted effort to involve the local church and local ministries in the educational experience of its students.
  3. The campus employs adult education models (flexible, personal and hands-on), allowing students to take responsibility for significant shaping of their own learning experience as well as more traditional weekday courses.

The campus in Charlotte remains consonant with the historic aims of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary by manifesting a continuing concern for academic excellence, biblical fidelity and for the interdenominational character of its ecclesiastical connections.
