Search Process
- Direction - The primary purpose of this phase of the search process is to clarify
the mission of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. A joint meeting of selected
faculty and trustees agreed that the existing GCTS Mission Statement that was formulated
in 1983 is still the defining document for the seminary's mission. We also developed
a preferred presidential profile to guide the committee in its search. Both the
Gordon-Conwell mission statement and the Presidential Profile are posted on the
GCTS website here.
- Collection - In this phase of the search process we hope to "cast the net" as
widely as possible in order to identify the best qualified prospects for the Search
Committee to consider. To help in this phase, we are inviting the
entire GCTS community to send names (with curriculum vitae, if possible) and recommendations
of qualified presidential prospects via the candidate
suggestion form.
- Selection - This is the phase where the Search Committee will conduct in-depth
interviews with selected presidential prospects. The goal of this phase is to
select the one person whom the Search Committee prayerfully discerns to be the
one candidate who will be presented to the Board of Trustees.
- Election - In this phase the entire Board of Trustees conducts an in-depth interview with the presidential candidate. It is a time to get to know the candidate's spouse. If all goes well and there is mutual discernment of the Lord's leadership in this process, the entire Board of Trustees will elect the candidate to be the next president of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.
- Transition - We are planning for a seamless presidential transition as Dr. Robinson concludes his ministry as president and the new president begins. We believe such cooperation will encourage the new president in the first few weeks on the job and help maintain positive momentum in the seminary, as well as encourage the president's family as they make the move to the Boston area.
