The John and Lois Pierce Center for Disciple-Building - Boston

Habits of the Heart

The Pierce Disciple-Building Center cultivates spiritual disciplines in the lives of CUME students through daily time alone with God in prayer, Bible study and personal reflection. We desire to serve as a catalyst for ongoing spiritual growth via the quiet times you share with the Lord. We will encourage your walk with Christ each time we meet together in small group or one-on-one. We can direct you to “Soul Sabbaths” during the year in hopes that you will take a day to set aside several hours to cultivate intimacy with the Savior. Each of these initiatives has the state of your soul as our top priority while you study at CUME. These disciplines, properly set, will serve as a life-giving resource for the rest of your ministry career.

Spiritual Community

Just as CUME offers a contextualized theological education, so also the Pierce Center provides a contextualized environment for spiritual growth. We pray that you will develop life-long friendships which continue to sustain encouragement, accountability and peer-support for many years to come. We desire that every student join a bi-weekly Soul Care Small Group during your years at CUME We come alongside each facilitator of our groups with training and resources to enhance this vital experience. Once the joy of relationships is established, you will enjoy the support network God creates at Gordon-Conwell, which will serve as life-enriching fellowship for the decades of ministry ahead.

Dynamic Paradigms

There is not simply one way of disciple-building; in fact, there are as many ways as there are people groups and needs in this world. However, there are timeless, biblical principles that shape each paradigm available to the body of Christ today. We want each CUME student to come in contact with as many life-transforming ways of presenting the gospel and growing disciples as possible.  We host an Annual Forum that addresses the question of “what are the dynamic paradigms for disciple-building for today's world?” We desire that each seminarian understand the biblical mandate for discipleship and we hope to offer resources and training that will prepare you for wherever God's call leads you into serving others...as together we proclaim the whole gospel to the whole world.
