News 2009

President Hollinger recently traveled to South Korea to preach at a number of churches and seminaries, as well as meet with Gordon-Conwell alumni. You can watch a video of Dr. Hollinger preaching, or read an article in the Kookmin daily news (note: the article is in Korean)

Mack Ave. Community Church, a Detroit church plant founded by several Gordon-Conwell alums, is featured in this Wall Street Journal article. We also interviewed one of the pastors, Leon Stevenson, about his experiences growing up, at seminary and planting in Detroit.

As 2009 draws to a close, we would be so very thankful if you would make a year-end gift online. Please prayerfully consider partnering with us in our mission on behalf of the true Hope of the World: the child of Bethlehem who became our risen Savior. May the wonder and great promise of Christmas fill your heart with peace and joy.

On Saturday, February 13th, the Charlotte campus will host its first Alumni Day as part of the weekend celebration of Dean Laniak’s installation. Joining us will be Dr. Leighton Ford, Dr. Garth Rosell, and Dr. Maria Boccia for a morning of worship and spiritual refreshment. A luncheon will follow. This event is for all alumni, regardless of campus, and looks to encourage and enrich all who are able to participate. Find out more.

The Metrolina Baptist Association and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary invite you to attend the MidWinter Conference for Equipping & Renewal, to be held on Gordon-Conwell’s Charlotte campus January 26, 2010.

This conference is designed for lay leaders, pastors, shepherds and all ministry staff who feel the need for a “recharge” of their spiritual battery and a honing of their ministry skills by a day of excellent teaching and practical application.

We are pleased to announce new alumni initiatives based out of the Charlotte campus. Mrs. Beth McKnight, a member of the Charlotte Board of Advisors, is now serving as an alumni relations representative in Charlotte. Also, various alumni events and initiatives out of Charlotte are beginning to take shape including the formation of regional alumni groups in the Mountain, Triad, Triangle, and Charlotte Metro regions. Dean Tim Laniak, Dr. Bob Mayer, Dr. Alison Littauer, and many other alumni have been involved in these efforts.

Mark Hatfield had a comfortable life as husband, father of four, active church member and co-owner of a successful construction firm–until he developed a hunger “to be more directly involved in the gospel commission of our great God.”

Sign up for the 2009 Gordon-Conwell Advent devotional, Journey to the Manger, produced by our faculty. Each day, a new devotional encouragement will be delivered to you via email. Sign up.

Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary offers students a $9000 scholarship. Visit the Partnership Program page for more information.

The new Charlotte Region Alumni Council invites all GCTS alumni in the Charlotte area to a Christmas gathering on campus! Please join us for chapel, followed by dessert in the rotunda, on December 4th at 6:30. Dean Tim Laniak will be speaking that evening in the chapel service. Please RSVP to Beth McKnight at bmcknight@gordonconwell.edu. You may also visit the event page on our Alumni Calendar and Events. We look forward to seeing you then.
