Dr. Haddon Robinson is the Harold John Ockenga Distinguished Professor of Preaching and served as Gordon-Conwell's fifth President. He is widely regarded as an expert in the area of preaching, and was named one of the twelve most effective preachers in the English-speaking world in a 1996 Baylor University poll. He is also co-director of the Doctor of Ministry Program at Gordon-Conwell.
Dr. Robinson, a native of New York City, has completed graduate studies at Dallas Theological Seminary (Th.M., 1955), Southern Methodist University (M.A., 1960) and University of Illinois (Ph.D., 1964). He received an honorary degree (D.D.) from Gordon College.
He comes to Gordon-Conwell from the presidency of Denver Conservative Baptist Seminary, in Denver, Colorado, where he served since 1979. Dr. Haddon Robinson has served as Director of the Dallas Youth for Christ (1952-55), Associate Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Medford, Oregon (1956-58), and an instructor of speech at the University of Illinois (1960-62). In addition, he taught homiletics on the faculty of Dallas Theological Seminary for nineteen years. From 1970-79 he was General Director of the Christian Medical and Dental Society, whose membership is made up of over 7,000 physicians and dentists in the United States.
Dr. Robinson has done extensive work in the areas of radio and television, and has served as host for the television program Film Festival, and is one of the hosts for Discover the Word (formerly Radio Bible Class), a daily radio program of RBC Ministries in Grand Rapids, MI, which is broadcast 600 times a day on stations around the world. He has served as editor of the field of preaching for the Theological Annual, as a contributing editor for Preaching, and as a fellow and senior editor for Christianity Today. He was president of the Evangelical Theological Society (1983) and has served on the executive committee for that group of evangelical scholars. He also serves on the boards of EvanTell, Marketplace Network, and the Evangelistic Association of New England.
A prolific writer, Dr. Robinson has edited the Christian Medical Society Journal, published articles in Christianity Today, Bibliotheca Sacra, Moody Monthly, the American Lutheran Magazine, and for the Leadership and Decision magazine. He writes regularly for Our Daily Bread, a devotional that goes to seven million people each month. He has authored six books: Psalm 23, Grief, Biblical Preaching, Biblical Sermons, What Jesus Said About Successful Living, and Decisions by the Book. Biblical Preaching is currently being used as a text for preaching in 120 seminaries and Bible colleges throughout the world.
