Prior to coming to Gordon-Conwell, Dr. Kang served as Associate Professor of Christian Formation & Ministry and Coordinator of Interdisciplinary Studies at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois. He has also taught as an adjunct faculty member at Andover-Newton Theological School, Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. His teaching and research interests include cultural analysis and engagement, educational and formational processes, the psycho-social-theological formation of the self, and Asian-American experience and ministry.
Dr. Kang is the author of Unveiling the Socio-culturally Constructed Multi-voiced Self (University Press of America) and co-author of A Many Colored Kingdom: Multicultural Dynamics for Spiritual Formation (Baker). He is co-editor of Growing Healthy Asian American Churches (IVP). Articles written by this scholar have appeared in the Journal ofOrganic Chemistry,Ex Auditu, Christian Education Journal, and Religious Education Journal. Dr. Kang has served on executive boards of the Association of Professors and Researchers in Religious Education and the North American Professors of Christian Education. Currently, Professor Kang is a member of the editorial board of the journal, Teaching Theology and Religion.
Dr. Kang’s participation in local and parachurch ministries is extensive. He was one of the founding pastors of Parkwood Community Church (a Pan-Asian American church plant). He has served as a staff member of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, a pastor of Alliance Fellowship Church in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, and a lay leader at Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Warrenville, Illinois. He is currently a member of First Congregational Church of Hamilton.
